As we kick off our new Community Spotlight series, we’re celebrating the local businesses, organizations and community partners who help make Emmaus’ mission possible.
Emmaus is incredibly grateful to the Methuen Walmart for awarding us a $1,000 grant through Walmart’s Spark Good local grants program. This generous contribution will help fund new bed linens, sheets and towels for Mitch’s Place individual shelter and the Emmaus Family Shelter. We were honored to join the Walmart team for the grand reopening of their newly remodeled store on October 16, where Jorge Ortiz, Store Manager of Walmart Store #3491, presented Emmaus with the grant. Jorge has been a strong supporter of Emmaus’ mission, and we are grateful for his commitment to helping address the needs of individuals and families in our community.
While bedding and towels may seem like everyday necessities, they play an essential role in creating a comfortable and welcoming environment for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Mitch’s Place provides emergency shelter for 40 adults, while the Emmaus Family Shelter serves families with children who need safety and stability during challenging circumstances. Clean sheets, fresh towels and comfortable bedding help guests maintain personal hygiene, get the restful sleep they need and experience a sense of dignity and security during their stay.
Since both shelters operate year-round, bedding and linens experience frequent, heavy use and must be washed regularly at high temperatures to maintain proper sanitation. This constant cycle of use and laundering causes items to wear out much faster than they would in a typical home, making ongoing replacement essential. Walmart’s grant will help Emmaus replenish these supplies, ensuring that guests have access to clean, well-maintained bedding and towels when they arrive. These seemingly small comforts can make a meaningful difference for adults and children navigating an uncertain time in their lives.
Walmart’s Spark Good program helps local organizations make a difference by supporting programs that address needs in their communities. We are thankful to Jorge and the entire Methuen Walmart team for their continued support of Emmaus and for recognizing the importance of providing these essential items. Community partnerships like this embody the spirit of our holiday theme, Share the Light, Spread the Love, reminding us that generosity takes many forms and helping Emmaus continue to support individuals and families on their journeys toward safe and stable housing.
