MT. Washington Alliance Community Health Fair

Haverhill, MA, April 25, 2017 | The Mt. Washington Alliance will be hosting a community health fair on April 29, 2017 from 11:00am to 2:00pm. The event will take place at Haverhill’s Silver Hill Horace Mann Charter School and is open to all members of the Haverhill community.  More than  20 partners in the community will gather together to provide on-site health screenings, information on health resources, a free lunch, and family activities.

Event transportation will be offered to Haverhill residents.

“I am hopeful that this event will empower residents to promote a culture of healthy living in Mt. Washington while engaging with the rest of the community,” said Angie Estevez, director of the Mt. Washington Alliance.

Holy Family Hospital and Polished Dental will provide general health screenings and dental screenings ad meet  individually with participants to explain their results and discuss ways to access the care they may need. The variety of resource vendors will aim to present a larger picture of wellness, emphasizing the importance of health comprising of mental, physical, and social aspects.

A FREE shuttle will run two routes each hour to make the event as accessible as possible.  The shuttle will have stops listed on www.mtwashingtonalliance.org.

Katie Vazeolas, Supervisor of Nursing and School Health Services at HPS, expressed excitement for the event.

“Haverhill Public Schools is pleased to participate in the Mt. Washington Alliance and this health fair,” Vazeolas said.  “What a great opportunity for our families and all community members to obtain relevant health information and free screenings.  I hope to see many of the Mt. Washington families [at the fair]!”

Event Organizer and Health and Wellness Educator Annapurna Ravel, an AmeriCorps VISTA serving at Emmaus this year, said she is overwhelmed by the support of the community.

“I am so impressed to see so many of our community partners coming together to bring resources to the residents of the Mt. Washington neighborhood,” Ravel said.

The legendary Martin “Piragua” who has operated a food stand at Lawrence’s Campaganone Park for more than 30 years will be serving FREE Caribbean refreshments such as Johnny Cakes aka Yaniqueques, and Piraguas, a frozen treat made out of shaved ice and tropical fruit-flavored syrups.

The Mt. Washington Alliance works to expand opportunity in the Mt. Washington neighborhood of Haverhill through programs and resources for improving education, employment, and neighborhood life.
